Vegan London: The Grazing Goat, Marylebone

A lovely posh pub, well known by meat lovers I was pleasantly surprised by how well it catered for vegans. They adapted one of their salads for a starter. I have no idea why it’s not on the menu as a standard option!

Whilst I roast vegetables like peppers, courgettes & aubergines for a warm salad. I had never considered pumpkin. Most probably because if anything I think of it as something sweet to turn into pumpkin pie or mix in with couscous. With sun dried tomatoes, spring onions and a lovely dressing, this salad was incredible!!

Their mushroom spelt risotto was a vegetarian option on the standard menu, the vegan option being without goats cheese. I wasn’t sure if it was teeny shallots or who garlic cloves, but the sweetness and flavour they added to the risotto, with the brightness of basil was so very tasty. I didn’t eat mushrooms for 6 years and always had a love/hate relationship with them, so I personally found there to be too many posh mushrooms where chestnut would have sufficed!  Would love to try a version with Brazilian Pinão, but in absence of that, maybe pine nuts, or chickpeas.

I will definitely be going back for round 2 and checking out the vegan dessert option!
